Prince Madoc’s Legend, 12W x 12H, acrylic on canvas, 2024

An ancient poem tells of a Welsh Prince who took ten ships and sailed west in the twelfth century. Prince Madoc is said to have landed on the shores of what is now Alabama and explored inland on the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. The legend is obscure, unprovable and wonderful. It speaks to the nature of a true explorer, one driven by curiosity above all else.

The surface is embellished with levelling gel for a glass-like finish and brilliant color. The canvas edges are painted and varnished. The image is intended as an abstract medieval icon. It is an icon sourced in an age of mystery and set to scrolls by ancient scribes.
